Abstract:
In 2010 all leading governmental and non-governmental organizations officially accepted. The Thermodynamic Equation of Seawater – 2010 (or TEOS-10) as a basic definition of seawater and its properties. Why did they do this? In this talk, I will describe the conceptual and practical issues that this redefinition was meant to address, with a particular focus on the so-called “salinity anomaly” and its important role in our current efforts to understand ocean general circulation issues.
