Title:Brief introduction of Marine Education.

Time:11/17 (Fri) 15:30-17:00

Location:2nd floor large lecture hall of IONTU

Abstract:

Taiwan is surrounded by the sea and has rich marine resources. Its coastline is more than 1,000 kilometers and is a typical island country. Theoretically speaking, the sea should be actively developed so that young people are willing to enter the marine areas and industries, and naturally become marine professionals. However, under the influence of the previous “38-year-old” martial law in Taiwan and its emphasis on “land-based thinking,” it has led to the Public general lack of ocean awareness at present.

In 2007, the Ministry of Education promulgated the “White Paper on Marine Education Policy”. Its main education policy aims to raise the ocean awareness of all people and reduce the gap between Learning and Applying. Therefore, marine education is divided into general education and marine professional education. Over the past decade, primary and secondary school textbooks have added maritime-related concepts and integrated maritime-related activities without increasing the graduates to engage in ocean-related occupations significantly.

Taiwan Marine Education Center has been established in 2013, committed to promoting marine education in Taiwan and enhancing its ocean awareness as a nationwide resource-related “resource integration,” “education and communication,” “training of personnel,” and “policy assessment.” platform.

Marine education is an educational journey from “land-based thinking” to “sea-based thinking.” Only through enhancing people’s understanding of marine ecology and environment can promote people’s understanding of emerging industries such as Ocean Power, Marine Tourism and Recreation, and Cruise, implement the planning and development of marine policies so as to achieve the management and sustainable use of marine resources and biodiversity. Through this speech, more professionals will be encouraged to engage in the marine industry and become the backstage driving force of “Blue Economy.”
