Title:Historical Oceanic Events Impacting Taiwan: A Numerical Model Analysis of the Battle Between Koxinga and the Dutch Fleet.

Time:9/11 (Thu)  14:20-15:20

Location:2nd floor large lecture hall of IONTU

Abstract:
Historical records describe that in 1661, Koxinga used the rising tide to guide his fleet into the Luerhmen Waterway, where he defeated the Dutch flagship Hector in the Taijiang Inner Sea, thereby laying the foundation for Taiwan’s development over the next 400 years.
However, this story is fraught with doubt.
This presentation will demonstrate the development of a numerical model to systematically analyze factors such as tides, tsunamis, storm surges, submarine landslides, and underwater flows in order to reconstruct the true reasons behind Koxinga’s ability to navigate through Luerhmen Waterway during the Battle of Koxinga.
