Biographical Summary
Dr. Denis focuses on the effects of environmental changes on the coral reef communities, and on the underlying mechanisms of coral’s resistance and resilience to disturbances. He obtained his PhD in 2010 on the acclimatization and adaption capacities of reef corals to global warming and anthropogenic disturbances. Since 2011, he has been working on the evolution of the interactions between the different functional groups of the coral communities and the variation of coral population performances in different habitats/regions along the Kuroshio Current. He developed a specific interest on corals from marginal areas, i.e. species successfully colonizing and/or expanding in suboptimal environments or outside the traditional limits commonly assumed for coral reefs distribution. In particular, he is interested in identifying the driving processes for these species to survive environmental extremes. Ultimately, the objective of his study is to predict the extent to which coral reef system will be affected and which species will successfully survive this modern period of extensive human pressure.
