Brief History

 

The Institute of Oceanography, established in 1968, is located on the main campus of National Taiwan University. The institute has endeavored to promote integrative and interdisciplinary research and education of marine sciences in Taiwan. The faculty and staff are committed to academic excellence and social responsibility by studying and protecting marine environment, promoting sustainable utilization of marine resources, and conserving marine ecosystems.
The institute offers both M.S. and Ph.D. programs. The education is being conducted in four divisions: physical oceanography, chemical oceanography, marine geology and geophysics, marine biology and fisheries.
The institute research vessel. The vessel is equipped with navigation equipment and research instruments. The operation is coordinated by experienced administrators, the crew, marine technicians and the vessel’s Regional Instrument Center.
