About Us

The National Science Council (NSC) Provided funds to build the R/V Ocean Researcher I and handed her to the National Taiwan University in January, 1985. Since than, she has been operated by the Institute of Oceanography and heavily used by marine scientists of all fields from different universities and research institutions. In order to help marine scientists to obtain high quality data for scientific research, NSC also established a “Marine Instrument Center” in March 1986. Special funds are allocated each year to purchase new equipments, to perform maintenance on the existing equipments, and to provide necessary supplies for shipboard scientific operations. The Center is staffed with electronic and mechanical technicians, programmers, administrators and scientists to provide professional advice and operation manuals, and distributes them to all interested parties.
