2016年10月11-12日，本所物理組詹森教授與美國Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) Dr. Lou St. Laurent和Applied Physics Laboratory-University of Washington (APL-UW) Dr. Craig Lee在理學院思亮館國際會議廳合辦臺美海洋合作探測工作會議(見以下照片)，參與會議研究人員除本所部分教師外，亦包括中山大學和國研究海洋中心的計畫主持人，國外則包括WHOI、APL-UW、Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO)、Oregon State University (OSU)、University of Maryland、Naval Research Laboratory之研究人員，計約30人。SK-II (Study of the Kuroshio – II)為我國科技部資助、延續OKTV的黑潮研究(2)整合計畫，美方為Office of Naval Research (ONR)支助的"Taiwan 2017″計畫。雙方經過兩天的討論，確認2017年的SK-II與Taiwan 2017合作科學議題為：

(1) Kuroshio and mesoscale eddy interactions

(2) Kelvin-Helmholtz instability waves in strong flow over topographic ridges

(3) Energy trapping of internal tides in the onshore of the Kuroshio

(4) Kuroshio Branch Current and submesoscale processes in the Luzon Strait

(5) Kuroshio intrusion via Mien-Hua Canyon

也確認本所與APL-UW的Seaglider聯合探測作業內容，本所與WHOI的PIES聯合觀測，2017年3-4月美國R/V Roger Revelle來我國海域之探測工作，以及海研一、二、三號配合聯合探測作業的航次時程。
